NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 12/11/17 A New Grassroots Organization Established to Advance Flagstaff Action on Climate The Flagstaff Climate Action Council (FCAC) announced its formation today by local citizens concerned about Flagstaff’s future in the face of a changing climate Flagstaff, Arizona – The Flagstaff Climate Action Council (FCAC) is pleased to formally announce its formation by a group of concerned citizens of Flagstaff. The mission of the FCAC is to advocate for planning, implementing, and sustaining meaningful actions to reduce our community’s contribution to climate change and to increase community resilience, in a way that promotes and upholds social equity while enhancing quality of life. FCAC will be engaging the Flagstaff community with respect to the planning process for the upcoming City of Flagstaff Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) and will be developing a network of informed citizens to ensure that Flagstaff's CAAP is successfully implemented in the near future.
“As a mom and Flagstaff citizen of 17 years, I can see how a changing climate is impacting what we love about Flagstaff,” said Dara Marks-Marino, one of FCAC’s founders. “We will be working to support the City of Flagstaff’s plan to help protect what we love about Flagstaff for our kids and future generations.” FCAC will be hosting a number of public meetings to educate and encourage Flagstaff citizens to take part in the CAAP planning process beginning in January of 2018. Any individuals interested in learning more or volunteering for the FCAC and its numerous subgroups (working on everything from building energy codes to transportation to funding mechanisms) can visit the official website (www.FlagstaffClimateActionCouncil.weebly.com) or follow on social media: (facebook.com/FlagstaffClimateActionCouncil; twitter.com/FlagstaffCAC).
